This isn’t senior living. it’s suffering.
My grandmother’s 2nd-degree burns prove it
That wasn’t a typo. And yes, you read it right.
My grandmother was handed “soup” so hot it left her with second-degree burns through her jeans.
Common serving temperature for soup is around 160 degrees, hot enough to cause instant injury. And yet, in a building full of seniors who often need assistance, Brookdale thought it was fine to serve it unmonitored and unchecked.
The cruelty didn’t stop at the spill. They left her sitting in those burning jeans, never acknowledging her agony, never calling us, never even filing an incident report.
For more than 16 hours, her blisters and swelling worsened while staff passed the blame instead of wrapping her wounds or getting her help.
And when the ambulance finally showed up? That was only because we arrived and demanded it. The paramedics took one look and said it themselves: these burns were so severe she needed the burn unit. Now, for almost two weeks, she’s been forced to endure painful scrubbing and cleaning of her wounds, all because of Brookdale’s negligence and inaction.
Sadly, this isn’t an isolated incident. So before you consider sending your beloved family member here, ask yourself: Am I willing to ignore these red flags?
Food served at scalding, unsafe temperatures
No immediate care or family notification after serious injuries
Basic dignity and personal care neglected
Leadership instability and no accountability
Families deserve more than glossy brochures and staged photos. My grandmother’s burns, and the suffering that followed, are the truth of Brookdale Senior Living. If corporate won’t act, then families like mine will keep telling the truth until someone listens.

To be completely transparent, there isn’t enough space here to express how I truly feel, but I’ll try to summon it up the best way I can. Dora, the Executive Director has been more than amazing and accommodating to my Mother. The team that she has built is exceptional. The director of Nursing is very knowledgeable and with her background in dialysis care among other achievements, is what makes the continuity of care A1. Lawrence and the care staff rock it like no other. Thank you for all you do!

Brookdale Arrowhead Ranch has been wonderful to work with! Akemi, Dora, Lawrence, Kim, and the entire team are professional, caring, and dedicated. They take excellent care of our patients, and communication is always smooth. We truly value our partnership with them!

My mother has been with Brookedale for a little bit over a year in October 2024. The caring staff there has made her stay a superb experience. They take the time to stop me when they see me to see how things are going with me n my family. Also, gives me a chance to ask any questions I may have. Thank you Brookdale.. Annamarie Medina

For the most part, this is a great place for mom. The staff is friendly and helpful and there is a full calendar of activities and outings every day. The food is cafeteria style food but they have other items like nachos and other snacks during the activities. The only negative thing I can report is that mom, having Alzheimer’s, throws things in the trash that don’t belong there, ie. cell phone, prescription glasses, clothes, etc… no one really checks the trash to see if there’s stuff that shouldn’t be in there before they toss it so we’ve lost some fairly expensive items that way and sometimes it’s hard to get communication responses from some of the staff but overall, given the circumstances, it’s been a good experience here.
